See a pharmacist

Many conditions can be treated without the need to see your GP.

Local pharmacies can provide advice and treatment for minor illnesses like earache, tummy issues, itchy eyes, colds, sore throats, and aches. Visit your local pharmacy without an appointment for confidential help and guidance on what to stock in your medicine cabinet.

Self-care

Help and support may also be available from many National and Local Organisations, some will also allow you to refer directly.

We operate a Total Triage process for patients to request their next appointment.

Our aim is to enhance your experience and ensure you receive the right care, at the right time, with the right clinician.

We would like to assure patients you will still receive the same care from the same surgery team the only difference is how you request the appointment.

How do I book an appointment with Total Triage?

No matter how you ask for an appointment, you will be asked the same questions. This helps the doctors understand what you need and makes sure everyone is treated the equally. Once the form is submitted a clinician will review the information and offer the appropriate appointment. We aim to reply within 48 working hours.

Urgent appointments for today or tomorrow

If you feel that your problem is urgent, you should tell the receptionist and every effort will be made for you to be seen the same day. If the doctor needs to see you in person or you would prefer a face-to-face appointment, we will invite you to come in.

Home Visits

Please request any visits before 10:30am to allow the duty doctor or Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Paramedic to plan their day.

A clinician will normally contact you first by telephone to assess the problem. This enables the clinician to triage all visit requests. It may be that the problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a District Nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance. This also allows the clinician to collect any information required for the visit.

It is normally best for a clinician to see a patient at the Surgery. This is because they have full access to patient medical records and better facilities for both examination and treatment of any problems. However the Surgery does understand that some patients are genuinely unable to make the short journey into see a clinician. Therefore the Surgery offers home visits in limited circumstances, normally where a patient is:

  • Terminally ill
  • Housebound and cannot be mobilised

Home visits are time consuming. Please remember that several patients can be seen in the Surgery in the time it takes to make 1 home visit, please help the Surgery by coming in whenever possible.

Home visits cannot be requested for convenience or lack of transport, the Surgery often has the numbers of several taxi firms and will gladly give them out to a patient. Often neighbours, friends or relatives are willing to help out. It is the responsibility of the patient to take reasonable steps to visit the Surgery.
